“Overcoming Gravity”
This piece is a visual exploration of the balance between freedom and limitation, both physical and mental. The human figure, captured in a moment of complete detachment, represents the yearning for liberation from self-imposed or socially defined boundaries. The chair encircling the head symbolizes the structures and thought patterns that shape, guide, and often restrict us. Yet, rather than viewing the chair as a burden, it becomes an integral part of the composition—a reminder that our inner limitations and external constraints are often intertwined.
Through the distorted perspective and the figure’s apparent levitation, I explore the transition from reality to dream, from the physical to the mental dimension. The denial of gravity is a metaphorical act: it signifies the desire to rise above the burdens of life, to transcend the material and the finite. By reducing the figure to its bare form, the human is stripped to its essence—without roles, without protection, only with what defines them at their core.
This piece challenges the viewer to reflect on their own boundaries. It questions how we let material things, societal norms, and our own thoughts influence us. The chair, often seen as a symbol of comfort or rest, becomes an instrument of movement and transformation. It is not a barrier but a catalyst for stepping in a new direction.
“Overcoming Gravity” is an invitation to find the courage to take these steps yourself—free from expectations, carried only by your own vision and trust in your balance.
